Hello New Year, Hello New Hair! Around this time last week I finally accepted that it was time for a major change, my hair was seriously damaged and lifeless, so I took a visit to Sister Joan Salon in Margate. It was getting to the point where my hair would just not hold a curl, even after immediately trying to style it. Also, I’ve always wondered why my hair never grew past a certain length, only recently had I accepted that the reason was due to the lack of visits I make to the hair salon.
Sister Joan Salon reached out to me on Instagram and invited me to visit their hair salon in Margate, I was more than delighted! The Salon is new to the area and has only been open for a few months. 2 weeks ago I visited the salon to do a patch test for coloring. Patch testing for coloring is legal requirement to ensure that no allergic reactions came from the chemicals that they use.
I loved the whole minimalist design to the salon, there were a combination of pinks, black and whites running throughout the whole salon. The overall vibe of the salon is very cool and relaxed. It’s certainly a place where anyone is welcome!
When I got to the salon I met with my colorist Izzie. I knew that I wanted to have blonde low lights put into my hair, so we discussed this further and decided to make my roots a bit darker and richer too. Initially, I was scared about having blonde put into my hair because when I was 14 and a hairdresser ombred my hair it came out ginger and I had to pretend to like it as I was too shy to say anything. I soon found out that Izzie, Keziah and Roxi had all previously worked at Bleach London which is known for coloring – I knew I was in brilliant hands.
Whilst I was waiting for the bleach in my hair to kick in I found out that the Sister Joan Salon also offers a Nail Service. I got gel nails with holographic foil done by the lovely Siobhan – she is amazing at nails! You can check out her Instagram here.
After this, Izzie washed the dye out of my hair and put in my Olaplex treatment. I had never tried Olaplex before, but was really impressed with the results. Additionally, I loved the fact that the chairs had a built-in massage – I was really loving life! Izzie and I chatted away about festivals and our upcoming plans for the year and was great with updating me on what she was doing with my hair.
Time literally flew by and it was time to get my hair cut by Roxi. I was aware that my hair was super damaged but I didn’t realize the extent that it was damaged until Roxi showed me exactly high up my hair was splitting. I understood that the best thing for the condition that my hair was in was to cut as much of it off as possible, so I opted for a long bob. This sort of style is on trend at the moment – I was just praying that it would suit me too!
Roxi used a range of amazing products to give my hair extra volume. Davines is the hair care brand that the Sister Joan Salon uses on their clients as they support sustainable beauty. I had never tried or even heard of this brand before the salon introduced me to them. I loved the Replumping Hair Filler Superative as it made my fine hair look fuller and thicker. Davines is definitely a brand I would like to use more of in the future!
I was so worried that having shorter hair would make me feel less confident. But I’m SO happy I went through with it because it honestly needed to be done! My hair feels so much fuller and healthier. I feel like I have a fresh start with my hair and a new opportunity to take better care of the condition of my hair. And FINALLY I have accepted the fact that my hair will not grow unless the damaged bits get cut off first – THANK GOD!
I cannot thank the team at Sister Joan Salon enough for the transformation they have made on my hair. If you’re based in Kent and are looking for a trustworthy hairdresser then be sure to consider Sister Joan Salon!
